Christianity & Liberalism

21-23 May 2007

High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire

The Presbyterian controversies in the USA during the 1920s and 30s led J Gresham Machen to write his seminal book, Christianity and Liberalism.  The intention of this work, still in print, was to expose the fallacies of liberalism and show how orthodox Christianity and theological liberalism are two fundamentally different religions.

These theological controversies have not gone away and infect all denominations.  Indeed, it has been said recently that within the House of Bishops of the Church of England today there are two different religions.  The intent of the conference is therefore to listen to God’s voice in Scripture, to learn from history and the example of others, and to reflect on the lessons and implications for the Church today.

Report of the Conference.
