Prayers for use during an Interregnum

These prayers are in traditional language but can be easily adapted if desired.

Most merciful Father, who hast called us to thy service in the fellowship of the gospel: We especially beseech thee during this interregnum to bless and prosper thy work in this parish. Unite us one with another in brotherly love; teach us to worship thee in spirit and in truth; be pleased to use our endeavours to extend thy kingdom in the hearts and homes of our people, and so visit us with thy salvation; through Jesus Chist our Lord.

Almighty Father, who in thy redeeming love hast drawn us together as members of thy Church in this parish, during this interregnum especially deepen our love for thee, we pray thee, and strengthen our fellowship one with another; and grant that by the witness of our corporate life others within this place may be brought to the knowledge of thee, and thy blessed kingdom may be enlarged; for the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who makest us both to will and to do of thy good pleasure: Give thy grace, we pray thee, to thy servant whom thou wilt call to have the oversight of the Church in this parish. Grant that he may be a faithful dispenser of thy holy Word and sacraments, and a godly example to the people committed to his charge; so that, this life ended, they with him may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Bless, we beseech thee, O Lord, the future vicar of his parish, and strengthen him with thy heavenly grace, May he be diligent in prayer and in the study of thy holy Word, that by wise counsel and good example he may guide thy people committed to his charge, and labour with unwearied zeal for the extension of thy kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, giver of every good gift: Be pleased to hear the prayers of thy people, and send to us as the vicar of this parish a man after thine own heart who shall faithfully and wisely exercise the cure of souls, to the good of thy Church and the glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O God, who knowest the needs of thy Church in every place: Look graciously at this time upon the people of this parish, and give to them a faithful pastor who may serve before thee in all diligence and lowliness of heart, and, by thy blessing, bring many souls to the joys of thine eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O most Holy Trinity of perfect love, come in thy power upon thy whole Church, and especially upon the one who is to serve thee in this parish; that in all his life and labour for thy kingdom he may always be guided, strengthened and upheld by thy peace and thy presence; who livest and reignest one God, world without end.
