 About us - organization


How is Church Society run?

Church Society is a voluntary association of members who wish to maintain the worship and doctrine of the Church according to biblical standards. The Society depends financially on it members and supporting Churches.

Church Society is controlled by a Council, ideally half clergy, half lay, elected at the AGM

Revd Chris Kilgour

Chris has recently taken up a title post at St Mary's Chalk, near Gravesend. Before that, he worked in software development in Sheffield, and was a member of Christ Church, Fulwood.

 

Dr Kirsten Birkett

Kirsten is a Lecturer in philosophy and ethics at Oak Hill College, and has written a number of books including The Essence of the Reformation and Unnatural Enemies: An Introduction to Science and Religion.

 

Revd Rupert Mackay

 

Rupert is 52 years old and has been minister at St Paul’s Hadley Wood, N. London, for the last 9 years. 4 years curate Knutsford. St Helen’s Bishopsgate, member 20 years + staff 4 years. Scripture Union Lymington/Rushmore camps involvement leader/staff 20 years.

 

Revd Robert Brewis

Robert is curate in Exe Valley Mission Community, and is committed to seeing the Reformed faith flourish in the Church of England.

Revd Pete Myers

Pete, 30, is curate at Christ Church Cambridge. Married to Kate and father to Josiah and Seth, Pete is an enthusiastic churchman and is keen to promote the classical Anglican faith as found in the BCP and Thirty-nine Articles.

 

 

Mr Mark Cawson

Mark is a Barrister (QC) in Manchester, a member of St John's, Knutsford, and a Trustee of the North West Partnership.

 

Revd Dr Mike Ovey

Mike is Principal of Oak Hill Theological College. Mike is a reformed evangelical and is convinced that this alone is authentic Anglicanism to which the Church of England should be committed. Chairman of Churchman Editorial Board.

 

Revd John Cheeseman (Vice-Chairman)

John is 62 years of age, and engages in an itinerant preaching and teaching ministry. He trained at Trinity College, Bristol and was previously Vicar of Holy Trinity Eastbourne 2001-2010. Chairman of Church Society Council, 1990-95. Director of Church Society Trust 1986-

 

 

Rev d John Richardson

John trained at St John’s College,Nottingham, was ordained in 1976 and is now aged 62. He is the Associate Minister at Henham and Elsenham w Ugley and the author of A Strategy that Changes the Denomination.

 

Revd Dr Andrew Cinnamond

Andrew is originally from N. Ireland, trained at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, and is now a team vicar in the Cotswolds (Gloucester Diocese). He has a PhD in Elizabethan Church History and is the author of What Matters in Reforming the Church?

 

 

Revd Simon Scott

Simon is aged 47, has been a member of Church Society since around the time of ordination in 1991. Currently Rector of All Saints, Little Shelford.

 

Revd Dr Ben Cooper

Ben is Minister for Training at Christ Church Fulwood, Sheffield. He has a doctorate in Biblical Studies, is a visiting lecturer at Oak Hill, and has written a number of books including Just Love: Why God Must Punish Sin, The Ethics of Usury, and Paul in 3D.

 

Revd Mark Smith

Mark is aged 27, studied at Ridley Hall and is currently pursuing a PhD in Patristics at Cambridge University, whilst also serving his curacy.

 

Revd Paul Darlington (Chairman)

Paul is Vicar of Oswestry Holy Trinity, a Church Society Trust Director, and a trustee of Fellowship of Word and Spirit. He is the author of our booklet Evangelical Ministry in a Non-Evangelical Parish.

 

Revd James Taylor

James is 32, married to Christine, and is Curate at St Luke Hampstead. James spent 5 years on the ministry staff team at St Helen Bishopsgate before undergraduate and postgraduate theological study at Oak Hill College.

 

Revd Timothy Edwards

Timothy read theology (at both undergraduate & post graduate levels) at Durham, which helped confirm a Reformed Protestant understanding of the gospel. Currently assistant curate at St Martin's, Brampton and St Kentigern's, Irthington in the diocese of Carlisle.

 

Revd John Telford

John began his curacy in Anlaby, near Hull in July 2013 having spent two years as a postgraduate student at Oak Hill College. Prior to college he served at St Helen’s Bishopsgate for 14 years, for two of which he was on staff. He is married to Liz and they have a baby called Joshua.

 

 

Revd Dick Farr

Dick is Chairman of Church Society Trust. He trained at Ridley Hall, Cambridge and is now Associate Vicar of St. John’s Tunbridge Wells having previously been incumbent of Henham, Elsenham, and Ugley.

 

 

Revd Stephen Walton

Stephen is vicar of Marbury, Tushingham, & Whitewell, in Chester Diocese.

 

Mrs Zoe Ham

Zoe is 27, and is studying part-time at Oak Hill, alongside her husband Robin (an ordinand). She recently represented Church Society for the 'Proper Provision' media campaign.

Church Society Trust is a separate company with its own members and Directors. The Directors are appointed by the Council of the Society.

Churchman is overseen by the Churchman Editorial Board who are appointed by the Council of the Society.

The Honorary Officers are:
